Arizona Heat

Arizona summers aren't as bad as I thought!

Well, there are the basics: it's hot, sunny, and dry. There are some things you do and some things you don't. Then there are the things that you want to do, but you think is crazy because other people tell you it's crazy. One of those would be riding motorcycles.

South Mountain

My coworker would always tell me that it would get too hot to ride, and that it would be unbearable. The hot wind like a direct fan on your body, feeling cool only relative to sitting over a burning engine; a dry, tornado-like wind inside your helmet, drying up your eyes; black-top asphalt, at ten or more degrees hotter than the heat; and finally, the smell of the ocean.. something you wish you had and miss so dearly! Clearly, I'm still riding my motorcycle in 100+ weather, and it's not too bad. As long as I'm not sitting for too long, and as long as I have gear on.

One note about the Arizona summer is that there are a lot more bugs. I live by Tempe Town Lake, which seems to be the breeding ground for mosquitoes and bugs of that sort. At night, it's still 95 degrees up until 10PM. With that said, bugs spend a lot more time messing around (maybe until midnight or later). Every light pole is flocked with bugs... it's so bad that if you leave the light on in your apartment, your windows will be swarmed with bugs as well.

Tempe Town Lake at night

As you can imagine, people get pretty lazy in the summer, especially during the day. There aren't too many people exercising like normal Fall/Spring days.. there's a lot less to do here. I can only think of a few things: movies, shooting range, driving range, mall, hanging out at someone's pad, going to the gym... not too much more. Yogurtland's becoming a popular destination.. I've been there quite a few times since the heat hit AZ.

Nonetheless, it's livable. Wish I didn't have to be here, but I don't have much choice, right??

I felt really disappointed to try lobster roll at Wood house & Co in San Francisco the other day. It seems have very good review but it's nothing like see food dish I had in Boston. It makes me want to blog about The Daily Catch. Be careful , is The Daily Catch not The Deadliest Catch!。

A home style restaurant with 1 chef, 1 waiter, 1 dishwasher, 20 seats. This is The Daily Catch, My second best restaurant from the trip. Home style restaurant is always been my favorite, who cares about decoration, restaurant is a place for food. 。

It was really cold at December time, because they don't take reservation, therefore you can see people line up on the meal time. That's nice to see 4 women left because unhappy been pushing out from the line. 。

I 。

I didnt spect too much about this restaurant (from the out side) had to wait for 10 mins in the middle of the winter... but once u were inside... my point of view totally change, 1 chef, 1 waiter, 1 dishwasher... They serv u straight in the pan they cooked... hmm really smell so good and the past i had.. was simple awesome ! so much flavor in it. The garlic bread... the best i ever had ! dont get angry about the plastics cups.. its part of the enviroment! I love this place.. and highly recomend !! Next time i go to boston definetly ill go back ! one of the best memories of the town!。

192 - Mill Valley - endless stairs

I have never known reading map is a such fun thing to do, especially reading a big map like US. I really need a big touch screen for map reading. It seems too much zoom in and zoom out on my little 14" notebook. Remove the tool bar doesn't seem help a lot. Sometimes I feel that I have wasting too much time looking at map, but this place is too big for me just go and try it out.
。 Anyway, reading map helps to get to know places better and you may find some places never be mentioned anywhere. Mill Valley is a beautiful mountain town. It's not a well known place for tourists but people like mountains might know a little bit about it. It's an entrance to Marin mountains, but maybe not many people will taking a day trip there.

On the map, I saw lots of straight line linked between roads on steep hill. It makes me wonder, what can they be? and why so many? I Google some picture out. Wow, endless long steps trial. I decided go and check them out. 。

Mill Valley is a city in Marin County, about 4 mils north of San Francisco. Total area of 4.8 square miles. 。 It wasn't a place for rich people till  1970s, Mill Valley became an area associated with great wealth, with many people making their millions in San Francisco and moving north. Things are expensive there. With old style of buildings, and no traffic lights. Maybe that's why bring such unique feeling to me. 。 。 How about have a concert in this nature amphitheater at Old mill Park?。

Most of stairs you can't see the end from the bottom. I walked into people's garden, Garage, house then realized the stairs are not public. After few errors, I found the public stair path will have a pillar like below picture. then I was laughing..

I didn't really have a detail plan for this trip. I was just wanted to walk around and not to worry too much where I will be end up. I have been through many long stair trails. Wondered what's on the end of the steps always the power keep me carry on every of them. I didn't feel tired till I almost walk for 7 mils. I was happy that no one was with me and I could do as much as I want and not to worry about someone might be bored out of their skull when I was having so much fun.

After came back home, I looked for these steps trial map for the area. That's a shame, I couldn't really find a good one. If Logitech give me 7 days off, and working on it, I am sure that I will come out with something really good and useful.

All the stairs seems coming from the same builder and it hold the style pretty well. The step size were right to me, maybe that's why I didn't feel tired walking on so many of them.

There was a river along Cascade Dr. I decided to finish out stair path and turn to the trial along the river. I found small stream, pound, small water fall... it's a trail along the small road but really nice...

Away from the path, I found this small water fall running into a small pond. So pretty, I was scared though because I was away from the trail and no body around. Quickly take few pictures and went back to the trail.

So much water, river should always have water in it... I feel sad to see a dry out river bed.. Like a lot of them we have in Taiwan...

I didn't expect that I will see a big water fall like this. It's located in side Cascade park. Cool。
